74-Year-Old Spokane Man Arrested for Threats Linked to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Visit

Robert Martindale, 74, was arrested by Spokane Police on Saturday following a coordinated investigation involving federal agents and Florida law enforcement. Martindale is suspected of making multiple threatening phone calls to President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago golf resort in Florida, as well as to the Villages, a retirement community where Trump held a rally last Friday.

According to the Spokane Police Department, Secret Service agents and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office traced the threatening calls to a phone number linked to Martindale. The threats reportedly involved plans to bomb or damage property, charges that constitute a Class-B felony.

While in custody, Martindale told Spokane officers that his calls were “not a threat but a warning,” suggesting he saw his actions as a form of protest rather than criminal intimidation. Nevertheless, he remains jailed in Spokane County as authorities continue their investigation.

This incident underscores the heightened tensions and risks tied to Trump’s continued public engagements. The president’s Mar-a-Lago estate has long been a flashpoint for controversy, from pay-to-play allegations to classified document scandals. Now, it has also become a magnet for threats that law enforcement must take seriously.

As Trump’s rallies and visits stir strong emotions on both sides, the line between political expression and criminal behavior is increasingly tested. Martindale’s arrest highlights the urgent need for vigilance and accountability in protecting public safety without silencing dissent.

We will continue to monitor developments in this case and the broader context of threats and violence linked to Trump’s ongoing influence and activities.
