Americans Increasingly Disgusted With Both Major Parties, Poll Shows

A recent Pew Research Center poll lays bare the extent of public dissatisfaction with America's two major political parties. According to the survey, 58 percent of U.S. adults hold an unfavorable view of the Republican Party, while 59 percent feel the same about the Democratic Party. This near-parity in negative opinion underscores a broad erosion of trust across the political spectrum.

Even more striking is the rise in the share of Americans who view both parties negatively. Currently, 26 percent of respondents express unfavorable opinions of both Republicans and Democrats, up from 21 percent in 2020. This shift highlights a growing cohort of voters who are alienated from the entrenched political duopoly, signaling potential openings for alternative voices or movements.

Despite these trends, partisan loyalty remains strong among self-identified Republicans and Democrats. About 89 percent of Republican identifiers and 84 percent of Democratic identifiers maintain favorable views of their own party. However, independents who lean toward a party are far less enthusiastic; only 54 percent of Republican-leaning independents and 52 percent of Democratic-leaning independents view their preferred party positively.

The data also reveal persistent hostility toward the opposing party. Over 90 percent of Democrats and Democratic leaners hold unfavorable views of the GOP, while 93 percent of Republicans and 86 percent of Republican leaners view the Democratic Party negatively. This entrenched animosity contributes to the deep polarization plaguing American politics.

Interestingly, favorable views of the Democratic Party have seen a modest rebound since last August, with Democratic identifiers' approval rising from 77 percent to 84 percent and Democratic leaners' approval increasing from 44 percent to 52 percent. Meanwhile, Republican identifiers' ratings of their party have remained relatively stable over the past year.

This widespread disillusionment with both major parties comes amid ongoing scandals, authoritarian overreach, and attacks on democratic norms—issues that Only Clowns Are Orange has tracked relentlessly. The data reinforce the urgent need for accountability and reform as the political establishment continues to lose legitimacy in the eyes of the American public.
