The bodies of six American soldiers return to the U.S. after an Iranian drone attack, with leaders and grieving families honoring them in Dover, Delaware.
MINNEAPOLIS — The bodies of six American soldiers returned to the United States through a dignified transfer in Dover, Delaware on Saturday, including the body of Sgt. 1st Class Nicole M. Amor of White Bear Lake, Minnesota.
President Donald Trump, first lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth attended the ceremony alongside family members of the fallen soldiers.
The service members from the 103rd Sustainment Command were killed last Sunday in an Iranian drone attack in Kuwait.
Minnesota Sens. Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar were also in attendance. Klobuchar said in a phone interview that she met with Amor’s mother, husband and children.
“He’s just really a good dad and clearly loved his wife so much and still loves her,” Klobuchar said of Amor’s husband.
Klobuchar said Amor’s husband spoke about expecting her to return home.
“It’s clear he envisioned her coming home. He was waiting for her to come home, and then suddenly she was taken away from him,” Klobuchar said.
She also described memories shared by the family about Amor as a mother.
“Rollerblading with their little daughter and how much his son misses her,” Klobuchar said. “So it’s just a lot of grief.”
Klobuchar said Amor’s mother remembered her as a joyful presence in the family.
“She just talked about what a delightful person she was, and how even though she was the younger one in the family, she was always kind of in charge of the brothers,” Klobuchar said. "Their little fourth-grade daughter was there holding her stuffed bunny, and we got to talk to them."
Tim Kennedy, the executive director of the Minnesota Military Family Foundation and a veteran, said a day like this can be hard for all families with loved ones serving.
“Families are always on edge when their loved ones are deployed. There's no question," said Kennedy. "They never are at rest or comfortable until the individual returns. To the families of all six service members, my deepest condolences."
