Bronx Man Brutally Wrongfully Detained by ICE, Left Bloodied and Stitched Up
A Bronx man was violently wrestled to the ground and wrongfully detained by ICE agents who only released him after realizing their mistake. His family says he needed stitches and is still traumatized, demanding justice as New York moves to hold ICE accountable.
A shocking video out of the Bronx shows U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents violently taking down a young man, Jeury Concepcion, in front of witnesses who pleaded for his release. The agents handcuffed Concepcion after a brutal takedown outside a local bodega, despite his protests that they had the wrong person.
Concepcion’s grandmother, Ivelisse Garcia Santana, recounted how the agents eventually looked at his phone and ID, realizing their grave error. Instead of an apology or proper release, they dropped him off bloodied in a park far from his home. Concepcion called his grandmother, who rushed him to a hospital where he received several stitches for his injuries.
The traumatic incident happened just one day before Concepcion’s 20th birthday. His grandmother described his panic and ongoing pain, breaking down as she recounted the needless violence inflicted on her grandson. She demands justice, emphasizing that this was a preventable attack on a Bronx-born young man.
This wrongful detention underscores the aggressive and often cruel tactics ICE continues to use, even as New York Governor Kathy Hochul promises reforms. Hochul’s latest state budget includes measures to protect New Yorkers from ICE abuses by allowing legal accountability for government officials, including ICE agents, who violate constitutional rights.
But for Concepcion and his family, these promises come too late. Their call for justice is a stark reminder that ICE’s unchecked power continues to inflict trauma and injury on innocent people. We will keep watching as New York moves to rein in these abuses and demand real accountability.
