“It’s like what happened to Kamala Harris. Whatever identity JD Vance had going that was different from Donald Trump’s is gone," Chuck Todd said.
Chuck Todd Claims JD Vance’s 2028 Presidential Hope Is ‘Dead’ Because Of Trump: ‘No Recovering From This’
Former NBC “Meet the Press” host Chuck Toddripped Vice President JD Vance’s chances of securing a 2028 presidential win following President Donald Trump’s military operations in Iran.
“JD Vance’s presidential aspirations are dead,” Todd told Chris Cillizza, a former CNN political commentator turned independent news creator, in a conversation published on Substack earlier this week.
“That is a hot take!” Cillizza responded.

Todd’s prediction comes during Trump’s ongoing “Operation Epic Fury” with Israel against Iran. The attacks have received a mix of backlash and support from his Republican base.
Some conservative personalities, such as former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), criticized the Trump administration for throwing the U.S into another foreign war, recalling the “America First” agenda the president touted during his campaign.

According to Todd, “there is no recovering from this” if you’re Vance, “because you’re the vice president!”
“It’s like what happened to Kamala Harris,” he said, referring to President Joe Biden’s vice president who was defeated by Trump in the 2024 presidential election. “Whatever identity JD Vance had going that was different from Donald Trump’s is gone. And now you own everything he does.” Todd added that “it’s clear’” the vice president is “a little uncomfortable with this.”
On Monday, Vance told Fox News’Jesse Watters that Trump would not allow military operations in Iran to turn into a multiyear operation like Iraq or Afghanistan, defending the president by saying he “has clearly defined what he wants to accomplish.”

However, just hours after Vance’s appearance, Trump touted the United States’ “virtually unlimited” weapons and stockpile on Truth Social, claiming “wars can be fought ‘forever,’ and very successfully.”
Todd said “cannot ever run against this” and that “he has lost the one thing that made him different.”
“The differentiator is gone, his America First credentials are just nonexistent. There is no, for him, there is no recovering from this,” Todd said.
