CODEPINK San Diego Joins May Day Rally to Demand ICE Abolition and Accountability for Trump War Crimes

On International Workers' Day, May 1, CODEPINK San Diego will host a rally and march at Chicano Park to spotlight the ongoing abuses of the Trump administration’s immigration policies and the broader machinery of U.S. imperialism. Starting at noon, the event will feature speeches, a march toward City College, and a banner drop at the Sampson Street bridge.

The organizers are making clear demands: the immediate abolition of ICE detention centers, which have long been sites of inhumane conditions and civil rights violations, and accountability for war crimes committed under the Trump administration. This rally connects the dots between the expansion of the war economy, the enforcement of brutal immigration policies, and the urgent need for universal social programs including healthcare, housing, and education.

CODEPINK San Diego is not going it alone. The event is co-sponsored by a broad coalition of grassroots and activist groups such as the ACCE Institute, Detention Resistance, San Diego Democratic Socialists, Veterans for Peace, and many others. Together, they are building a unified front against the authoritarian overreach and systemic abuses that have become hallmarks of the Trump era.

This rally is more than a protest; it is a call to action for anyone concerned about government accountability and human rights. It underscores how ICE’s expansion and the Trump administration’s war crimes are not isolated issues but part of a pattern of authoritarianism and corruption that threatens democracy itself.

This May Day, the message is clear: abolish ICE, defund the war machine, and demand justice from an administration that has repeatedly trampled on civil rights and international law. The time for accountability is now.
