Congressman Kennedy Calls Out GOP Efforts to Undermine Election Integrity and Voter Access

Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) took a firm stand against GOP efforts to undermine election integrity during a recent Homeland Security Committee hearing. Kennedy highlighted the urgent threat posed by misinformation campaigns and federal overreach aimed at disrupting state-managed elections, particularly in Western New York.

Kennedy emphasized that Republicans are pushing an agenda designed to restrict voter access through measures that would centralize election control and impose unnecessary barriers. Drawing on his 14 years of experience in the New York State Senate, he pointed to the state’s successful reforms that expanded absentee ballot drop boxes, early voting sites, and mail-in voting — all designed to improve access, security, and transparency.

“The current President is actively working to sow misinformation in our elections, undermine state procedures and protections, and block access to the ballot box as part of a larger effort to ensure he sees the election results he wants later this year,” Kennedy warned.

He also highlighted the damaging impact of election misinformation on communities like Western New York, where limited local resources are further strained by false narratives that erode public trust and discourage voter participation. Kennedy underscored that maintaining both access and security is essential to preserving democracy.

A key concern raised was the weakening of federal support for election security infrastructure. Cuts to critical programs and personnel leave local officials without adequate tools to defend against cyber threats and physical intimidation. This creates a dangerous environment for voters and election workers, who face increased harassment and politically motivated interference.

With the 2026 elections fast approaching, Kennedy called for a renewed commitment to protect democratic institutions and reject policies that would disenfranchise millions of eligible Americans. He made clear that the Republican push to centralize election control and restrict access is a direct attack on the fundamental right to vote.

Kennedy’s remarks serve as a stark reminder that the fight for election integrity is ongoing and that vigilance is needed to safeguard the democratic process from authoritarian overreach and disinformation.
