Connecticut’s Corruption Crisis: Millions Lost and Trust Shattered Under Governor Lamont

On Law Day, Connecticut faces a harsh reckoning as scandals and mismanagement under Governor Ned Lamont’s watch have drained millions from taxpayers and eroded public trust. From bribery and bid-rigging in school construction to runaway costs at State Pier and energy chaos at PURA, the state’s leadership has repeatedly failed accountability.

Connecticut’s Law Day should be a moment to reaffirm government’s duty to serve the people. Instead, under Governor Ned Lamont and Democratic leadership, it has become clear that corruption and mismanagement are the order of the day — with taxpayers left holding the bag.

The fallout is staggering. Former Lamont official Kosta Diamantis was convicted on 21 federal charges including bribery, extortion, and bid-rigging tied to school construction contracts. This scandal alone involved tens of millions of dollars in public funds steered to benefit Diamantis and his associates — all under the governor’s nose.

Meanwhile, the State Pier redevelopment project exploded from a $93 million plan into a $300 million debacle. Key decisions were made behind closed doors, financial risks were dumped on taxpayers, and transparency was nowhere to be found. Connecticut families face the consequences while insiders cash in.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), charged with protecting ratepayers, has been mired in dysfunction under Lamont’s handpicked chair. This outsider’s mismanagement helped push Connecticut’s energy costs to the second highest in the nation, sparked litigation, and led to rare judicial referrals of agency attorneys to the state grievance committee.

Even within the governor’s own administration, reports of senior staff misusing state vehicles reveal a culture of exceptions for insiders and eroding standards of accountability.

Perhaps most troubling is the silence and inaction around State Senator Doug McCrory, who remains in powerful committee roles despite federal investigations into a nonprofit funding scandal involving millions in public money. Governor Lamont’s weak call for McCrory to “step back” was ignored, exposing a blatant conflict of interest and a Democratic caucus unwilling to police its own.

This is no isolated mess. It’s a pattern of scandal, cover-ups, and costly failures that have drained hundreds of millions from Connecticut taxpayers and shattered faith in state government.

Connecticut deserves answers: How did oversight fail so spectacularly? Why does accountability only come after investigations? Why does Governor Lamont protect insiders instead of demanding resignations?

Government exists to serve the public good, not line the pockets of a few. Connecticut’s residents deserve leadership that values transparency, responsibility, and putting people first. Until Lamont and the Democrats change course, corruption and broken trust will remain the state’s defining legacy.
