Corruption Is the Root of It All, Say Global Women’s Caucus Ahead of 2026 Midterms
The Global Women’s Caucus of Democrats Abroad lays bare the corrosive impact of corruption on democracy, from endless war spending to ICE’s ballooning detention centers. Their urgent call: demand accountability, change the rules, and vote early to defend our rights before the Supreme Court chaos hits.
The Global Women’s Caucus (GWC) of Democrats Abroad is sounding the alarm with a blunt message: corruption is not just a side issue — it is the root problem undermining every aspect of our society. In their May 2026 newsletter, Chair Sally DeSipio pulls no punches, linking the unchecked greed of billionaires and political insiders to the sprawling $45 billion expansion of ICE detention centers and the staggering $2 billion daily cost of endless wars.
DeSipio’s letter is a fiery indictment of the current government and the patriarchy it upholds. She refuses to accept the status quo where the ultra-wealthy dodge taxes while exploiting insider information and crypto schemes to amass fortunes. Meanwhile, ordinary Americans foot the bill through their taxes and face the human toll of policies like mass detention and family separations.
The GWC demands systemic reform: repeal Citizens United to end unlimited election spending, criminalize insider trading by elected officials, and embed ethical oversight into law — oversight that cannot be ignored or bypassed. They emphasize that both major parties share blame and must be held to rigorous, transparent standards. Power must never be abused for personal gain.
This call for accountability comes with an urgent voting reminder. The Supreme Court is poised to hear a case that could upend mail-in ballot rules nationwide, threatening chaos before the midterms. The GWC urges Americans abroad to request their 2026 ballots now and return them promptly. Procrastination is not an option when democracy itself is on the line.
To amplify the message and energize voters, the GWC is launching “YES WE VOTE” scavenger hunts across major European cities. These events blend cultural history with civic engagement, celebrating resistance to tyranny while helping participants request their ballots. The campaign also includes “Red, White & Zine,” a grassroots creative project spotlighting women’s voices and power in elections.
With the midterms looming, the Global Women’s Caucus makes clear: corruption is the enemy, and voting is the weapon. The fight for democracy demands knowledge, action, and solidarity — starting with your ballot. As DeSipio puts it, “Our kids deserve it.”
Request your ballot today. Then tell three (or thirty) friends. Yes, we can. Yes, we must.
