Dem Congressman Pushes to Cut Funding for Trump’s Unauthorized Iran War

Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-PA), a veteran and member of the House Armed Services Committee, is leading a push to stop the Trump administration’s unauthorized war in Iran by cutting off its funding. Speaking with WHQR, Deluzio slammed the administration for failing to disclose the full scope of damage inflicted by Iranian strikes on U.S. military bases—damage reportedly far worse than publicly admitted.

“The simple answer is they haven’t” informed Congress about the true costs, Deluzio said, referencing a recent Washington Post report on bombed-out infrastructure and equipment. The administration only recently admitted the war has cost $25 billion, a figure experts believe is a significant underestimate. Deluzio condemned the spending as “billions and billions of dollars that this president is spending in a war the American people and Congress never authorized.”

Deluzio is one of 18 Democrats backing the No Funds for Iran War Act, which would bar any public money from being used for the conflict unless Congress formally declares war or authorizes military force—neither of which has happened. “We’re not going to pay for this war unless Congress says yes,” he emphasized.

The congressman highlighted the direct impact on Americans, noting rising fuel costs and economic strain linked to the conflict. He urged Republicans to join Democrats in opposing the war, warning that failure to act risks electoral consequences.

As a veteran, Deluzio framed the legislation as a matter of respect for service members. “You don’t squander that patriotism by asking them to risk their lives needlessly,” he said. Ending the war, he argued, would support troops by bringing them home and preventing unnecessary danger.

If the bill fails, Deluzio vowed to continue pursuing war powers resolutions and leveraging Congress’s spending authority to halt the conflict. With defense budgets ballooning and supplemental requests stacking up, he insisted Congress must stand up for the American people and prioritize investments at home over Trump’s reckless foreign adventures.

This legislation and growing congressional opposition underscore a critical fight against an administration using war as a distraction and a tool for power consolidation—forcing Americans to pay the price in blood and treasure without their consent.
