Democrats Demand FBI Director Kash Patel’s Ouster Amid Explosive Drinking Allegations
Kash Patel, Trump’s FBI director, faces calls for removal after reports of excessive drinking on the job and misuse of taxpayer funds. Democrats say Patel’s alleged behavior undermines trust in the FBI and demand proof he’s fit for duty — while Patel denies everything and sues a major news outlet for reporting on his substance abuse.
Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu and other House Judiciary Committee members are sounding the alarm over FBI Director Kash Patel’s alleged substance abuse and misconduct. They want Patel off the job, citing reports that paint him as a “raging alcoholic” who drinks heavily while working and misuses government resources for personal indulgences.
Lieu pointed to a disturbing pattern: videos showing Patel partying and drinking on taxpayer-funded trips, including a flight to the Olympics. More seriously, a New York Times report alleges Patel weaponized FBI databases to target a reporter who exposed his lavish use of private jets to fly his girlfriend around at taxpayer expense.
In a sharply worded letter sent to Patel on April 21, Judiciary Committee Democrats demanded he submit results from an “Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test” by the following Tuesday. The letter detailed accounts from FBI staff describing “episodes of excessive drinking and unexplained absences,” with Patel reportedly becoming so intoxicated that SWAT-level breaching tools were needed to rouse him from locked rooms.
Patel has denied all allegations, insisting he has “never been intoxicated on the job.” He has also launched a $250 million defamation lawsuit against The Atlantic, which published a report citing more than two dozen anonymous sources concerned about Patel’s drinking and erratic behavior.
The controversy comes amid broader criticism of the Trump administration’s misplaced priorities. Lieu called out President Donald Trump for focusing on building a $40 million private White House ballroom and a giant arch in Washington, D.C., rather than addressing the economy or ending the war with Iran.
This scandal highlights a troubling trend of loyalty-driven appointments that politicize federal law enforcement and erode public trust. Patel’s alleged conduct threatens the integrity of the FBI at a time when accountability and professionalism are desperately needed. If the administration refuses to act, it could jeopardize crucial legislative priorities like FISA reauthorization.
The American people deserve an FBI director who upholds the law, not one mired in scandal and substance abuse. The question now is whether the Trump administration will finally put country over cronyism — or continue enabling corruption at the highest levels of law enforcement.
