Democrats Demand Trump Take Cognitive Test After Threatening Iran with Civilization-Wiping War

Democrats are openly questioning President Donald Trump’s mental fitness after a series of alarming public statements about the ongoing conflict with Iran. Maryland Representative Jamie Raskin, top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, sent a letter to White House physician Sean Barbarella demanding a comprehensive cognitive assessment of the president and that the results be shared with Congress.

Raskin’s letter, obtained by Courthouse News, highlights Trump’s recent rhetoric as “increasingly incoherent, volatile, profane, deranged and threatening.” The congressman specifically points to Trump’s social media warning that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran did not negotiate, a threat that pushed the president’s conduct beyond normal political discourse.

The letter also calls out Trump’s bizarre behavior at the White House Easter Egg Roll, where he reportedly described “bombing missions, downed fighter jets and rescue operations” to small children—remarks Raskin describes as “plainly out of the realm of normal politics.”

“This is not just rhetoric,” Raskin wrote. “When the President threatens to extinguish a civilization, rants about combat missions with children present, and drops profane tirades on Easter morning, we have indisputably entered the realm of profound medical difficulty and concern.”

The timing of this demand is critical. Trump initiated this warlike posture without congressional approval, raising urgent questions about whether he is mentally capable of fulfilling the duties of Commander-in-Chief during a conflict.

Raskin is also pushing for Barbarella to testify under oath before Congress, ensuring transparency about the president’s mental health at a moment when the country’s safety hangs in the balance.

The White House pushed back, with spokesperson Davis Ingle dismissing Raskin as “a stupid person’s idea of a smart person” and comparing Trump’s mental sharpness favorably against former President Joe Biden, who has faced similar attacks from Republicans.

But criticism of Trump’s Iran rhetoric is not limited to Democrats. Former Fox News hosts Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly condemned the president’s threats, with Kelly calling the idea of wiping out an entire civilization “vile” and “sick.” Even some former allies like Marjorie Taylor Greene have joined calls to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office.
