Dozens Protest Trump Speech Amid Heavy Police Presence in West Palm Beach

Dozens of protesters lined up outside the sweltering West Palm Beach events center Friday evening, where President Trump was scheduled to speak. More than 50 demonstrators faced off against a heavy security presence, including local police and federal agents, who cordoned off the Kravis Center just days after a gunman tried to storm the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.

As Trump’s speech began, law enforcement pushed protesters across Okeechobee Boulevard, citing the need for a “secure perimeter.” Helicopters circled overhead, underscoring the tense atmosphere surrounding the event.

Donna Weinstein, a protester from Boynton Beach, said her motivation was the administration’s blatant profiteering off power. “What about the billions of dollars going to his friends who run ICE detention centers,” Weinstein demanded. “This whole administration is a money grab.” Her words highlight the ongoing outrage over the expansion of for-profit immigration detention and the administration’s role in enabling abuses within ICE facilities.

The event was sponsored by the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches, a self-described nonprofit, nonpartisan civic organization that hosts speeches from political figures across the spectrum. But protesters were not buying the group’s neutrality. “Shame on the Forum!” chanted demonstrators, calling out what they see as complicity in giving Trump a platform.

Lacy Larson, part of Palm Beach Indivisibles’ leadership, helped organize the “Reject Trump” protest. She emphasized the importance of visible resistance, especially for community members who may feel unsafe speaking out. “It’s really important we make ourselves visible so they know that they’re not alone,” Larson said as protesters waved signs at rush hour traffic.

This protest fits into a broader pattern of increasing public pushback against Trump’s authoritarian overreach, corruption, and the administration’s attacks on democratic norms. As the government doubles down on ICE enforcement and expands detention centers, grassroots activists are stepping up to expose the human and civil rights costs of these policies.

The heavy police presence and restricted protest zones underscore the administration’s willingness to use law enforcement to stifle dissent and control public spaces. But as this rally shows, determined activists are not backing down. They are holding the line, demanding accountability and shining a light on the administration’s abuses of power.
