Epstein Survivor Calls Out Melania Trump’s White House Statement as a Deflection
Jeffrey Epstein survivor Marina Lacerda and other victims slammed Melania Trump’s surprise White House remarks denying any personal ties to Epstein and urging victims to come forward. Survivors say Melania’s statement shifts responsibility onto them while her husband’s Justice Department shielded enablers and withheld critical files.
Melania Trump’s sudden White House statement on Jeffrey Epstein sparked outrage among survivors who say it’s a calculated attempt to dodge accountability. Speaking from the same podium where President Trump recently addressed the war in Iran, the First Lady denied ever having a personal relationship with Epstein and urged victims to “tell their story in public if they wish.” But survivors like Marina Lacerda, who was trafficked by Epstein starting at age 14, see through the veneer.
In an Instagram post, Lacerda questioned the timing and motive behind Melania’s remarks: “It sounds like you’re just trying to shift attention from something to something else. So, how does this benefit the Trump family, is my question.” Lacerda and other survivors accuse Melania of retraumatizing victims by implying it’s their responsibility to expose Epstein’s trafficking network and his powerful enablers.
A joint statement from survivors, reported by the Daily Beast and The Guardian, condemned the First Lady’s call for victims to come forward as a “deflection of responsibility, not justice.” They highlighted the courage survivors have already shown by testifying and filing reports, while pointing fingers at the Trump Justice Department under former Attorney General Pam Bondi for withholding files and exposing survivors’ identities. “Those failures continue to put lives at risk while shielding enablers,” the statement reads. “Survivors have done their part. Now it’s time for those in power to do theirs.”
Melania Trump’s denial of any friendship with Epstein contrasts sharply with public records showing she and her husband socialized with Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell in the early 2000s. Emails released earlier this year revealed Melania complimenting Maxwell and referencing a glowing New York magazine profile of Epstein. Donald Trump himself once praised Epstein as “a lot of fun to be with” and acknowledged Epstein’s fondness for beautiful women.
The timing of Melania’s statement has fueled speculation that the Trump White House is trying to distract from other controversies, including the war in Iran and economic woes, or preempt damaging revelations about the Trump family’s ties to Epstein. Survivors and observers alike see through this attempt to rewrite history and evade responsibility.
This episode underscores the ongoing fight for transparency and justice in the Epstein saga—a fight survivors have led despite institutional failures and political cover-ups. Melania Trump’s words may aim to close the chapter on her family’s connections to Epstein, but survivors demand real accountability, not empty rhetoric.
