FBI Director Kash Patel is in full panic mode. Following a scathing Atlantic exposé that detailed his excessive drinking, erratic absences, and alienation of bureau staff, Patel has reportedly ordered more than two dozen current and former security detail members to take lie detector tests. The goal: to flush out whistleblowers leaking damaging information about his conduct.

This is not Patel’s first polygraph panic. After a case of personalized bourbon he gifted to FBI staff went missing during a training seminar, Patel allegedly “lost his mind” and threatened multiple agents with polygraph tests and prosecution, according to retired agent Kurt Siuzdak.

Even former President Donald Trump reportedly disapproved of Patel’s boozy antics, including chugging beers with the Team USA Men’s Hockey team after their Olympic gold win—an optics disaster for officials claiming to be on government business.

Patel’s escalating paranoia and erratic leadership threaten to further damage the FBI’s credibility at a time when the bureau needs steady, principled leadership.
