FBI, ICE and more federal agencies in Madison County to address ‘labor concerns’
MERIDIANVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Several federal agencies were conducting search warrants and more in Meridianville on Wednesday.
From around 7:30am to just after 1pm Addlestone and Waterway Drive in the Bermuda Lakes neighborhood were filled with nearly 10 different federal agencies executing warrants for “labor concerns.”
Xavion Wilson and Josh Toler are residents in the neighborhood and said this morning was terrifying.
“I just woke up to some commotion, and I had looked out the window, and I seen them down there,” Wilson said.
“It was like 7:33 and he called me he told me to look out my window. Lotta guns drawn lotta guns drawn. You know I was very very terrified,” Toler added.
They said everything was pretty normal until a few months ago when new homes were built on those two streets and people started to move in. Now they say the neighborhood has been turned upside down.
“It wasn’t too much attention,” Wilson said.
“It wasn’t too much attention out here. We didn’t have all of this,” Toler followed
Federal agents approaching homes and escorting people into waiting agents’ cars.
Some people were driven away, but we still don’t have a clear idea of how many or what charges they may face.
We do know there were 7 federal, state and local agencies here today including ICE, FBI, and homeland security.
Wilson lives next door to one of the homes that was searched and said the new neighbors changed the tone of the community.
“It would be weird vibes. If you step outside, you’d catch them staring at you. They’d be jogging up and down the streets and they really didn’t come outside until nighttime,” Wilson said.
The agencies left the neighborhood earlier this afternoon.
We believe the homes involved are all rentals and we were unable to find the names of renters who may have been picked up.
This is a developing story, and we will update you once we have any more information.
