FBI Questions Wisconsin Election Official as Trump’s 2020 Vote Lies Linger
The FBI has interviewed a top Wisconsin election official about the 2020 presidential election, signaling a troubling expansion of investigations rooted in debunked voter fraud claims. This move comes amid ongoing attempts by Trump and allies to relitigate and undermine the integrity of a free and fair election.
The FBI recently questioned Robert Kehoe, deputy administrator of the Wisconsin Elections Commission, about the 2020 presidential election, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. This development suggests that the Department of Justice may be intensifying efforts to probe and revisit the 2020 election results, despite overwhelming evidence that debunks claims of widespread fraud.
During the interview, Kehoe clarified Wisconsin’s election procedures and pushed back against false narratives, sources told the Journal Sentinel. The Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) confirmed that it regularly cooperates with federal, state, and local officials on election matters but declined to discuss specifics due to confidentiality rules.
Wisconsin has been a frequent target of baseless conspiracy theories pushed by former President Donald Trump and his allies. Trump falsely claimed he won Wisconsin and alleged that thousands of ballots were fraudulently cast for Joe Biden, who actually won the state by more than 20,000 votes. After the election, Trump’s team sought to discard over 200,000 absentee ballots from Milwaukee and Dane counties, arguing they were illegal. A recount instead confirmed Biden’s victory and even increased his margin by 87 votes.
The FBI’s recent seizures of election data in battleground states like Georgia and Arizona have alarmed Wisconsin election officials, who fear similar demands could be made for hundreds of thousands of ballots from Milwaukee. Governor Tony Evers has vowed to resist any such attempts, warning that these actions are part of ongoing efforts to relitigate and undermine the 2020 election.
This FBI inquiry is yet another chapter in the Trump administration’s relentless campaign to sow distrust in American democracy by weaponizing false claims of voter fraud. It threatens to further erode public confidence in the electoral process and distract from pressing issues facing the country today. We will continue to track these developments and hold those responsible accountable.
