Florida Woman Faces 11 Felony Charges for Deliberately Running Over Baby Ducklings

A 64-year-old Jacksonville woman, Beverly Sasberry, was arrested and charged with 11 felony counts of animal cruelty after police say she deliberately ran over baby ducklings with her vehicle on the city’s Westside. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office took swift action following reports from a couple who witnessed the shocking incident on Tempest Street.

According to the witnesses, Sasberry drove a red Honda Accord repeatedly over the ducklings, even turning her vehicle around multiple times to strike them again. When confronted, the woman reportedly admitted she killed the ducklings intentionally because she was upset about the mess the ducks were making in her yard.

Surveillance footage provided by the couple captured the vehicle running over the animals, enabling officers to identify Sasberry as the driver. She was stopped by police on April 30 and taken into custody. The 11 felony counts reflect the seriousness with which Florida law treats animal cruelty.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office emphasized its commitment to prosecuting crimes against animals and encouraged the public to report any suspected abuse. “We do not take animal cruelty cases lightly,” the agency stated.

Sasberry is currently held in Duval County Jail pending further court proceedings. Details on bond or upcoming court dates have not been released.

This case stands as a stark reminder that cruelty toward vulnerable creatures will face legal consequences. It also highlights the importance of community vigilance and reporting to hold offenders accountable.
