Global Outrage as Iran Launches Missile and Drone Strikes on UAE, Sparking Regional Crisis

The United Arab Emirates intercepted 15 missiles and four drones fired from Iran in a brazen attack on Monday, targeting civilian and economic sites including the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone and an Emirati crude oil tanker near the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The strikes wounded three Indian nationals and caused a large fire, prompting the UAE to warn it reserves the right to respond to what it called “treacherous” aggression.

Iran denied involvement, but the international response was swift and unequivocal. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan condemned the attacks as blatant violations of sovereignty and threats to regional security. Saudi Arabia called on Iran to immediately cease its “reprehensible aggression,” while Bahrain labeled the strikes “terrorist attacks” and urged the UN Security Council to take firm action.

Western governments echoed these concerns. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz demanded Tehran return to the negotiating table and end its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the need to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also condemned the attacks, calling for de-escalation and diplomacy to prevent further conflict.

France’s President Emmanuel Macron described the strikes as “unjustified and unacceptable,” pledging continued support for the UAE and regional allies. The Gulf Cooperation Council denounced the attacks as piracy and extortion, highlighting the threat to vital maritime routes that underpin global oil supply.

This escalation comes just weeks after a ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States on April 8, underscoring the fragility of peace efforts in the Gulf. The attacks risk dragging the region back toward open conflict, with potentially severe consequences for global energy markets and international security.

In the face of mounting aggression, the UAE and its allies are signaling readiness to defend their sovereignty and maintain stability. The international community’s unified condemnation sends a clear message: Iran’s provocations will not be tolerated, and meaningful diplomacy must resume before tensions spiral further out of control.
