GOP Rep Rudy Yakym Attacks Biden Over Hunter Pardon, Ignores Trump’s Own Pardon Abuses
Indiana Congressman Rudy Yakym slammed President Biden for pardoning his son Hunter, accusing Biden of lying and hypocrisy. But Yakym’s outrage rings hollow given Trump’s notorious record of pardoning cronies and January 6 rioters, exposing a glaring double standard in GOP attacks on presidential pardons.
Indiana Congressman Rudy Yakym wasted no time weaponizing President Biden’s pardon of his son Hunter Biden, claiming Biden “knew he was going to pardon Hunter the minute he was convicted” and “knowingly and repeatedly lied about it for months before the election for political gain.” Yakym’s statement, issued Sunday evening, accuses Biden of hypocrisy and dishonesty, positioning the pardon as a political stunt and a betrayal of judicial independence.
“Every single baseless charge and cliché Left uttered against President Trump—from ‘no one is above the law’ to ‘Trump is a threat to judicial independence’—was a lie and a distraction from their failed record on open borders and the economy,” Yakym declared. He framed Biden’s pardon as the “sad, predictable, and fitting end to the failures of the past four years,” while praising Trump’s promise to “end the real weaponization of the justice system and Make America Great Again.”
Yakym’s statement is a textbook example of GOP hypocrisy on presidential pardons. While Yakym condemns Biden’s pardon of Hunter Biden, Donald Trump’s administration was notorious for abusing the pardon power—pardoning January 6 rioters, cronies convicted of corruption, and even himself in attempts to obstruct justice. Trump’s pardons were often blatant rewards for loyalty rather than justice, undermining the rule of law and democratic norms.
The GOP’s selective outrage exposes a glaring double standard: pardons are condemned only when they involve the Biden family but excused or celebrated when they benefit Trump’s allies. This cynical approach erodes trust in the justice system and highlights the partisan weaponization of legal processes.
At a moment when the country faces ongoing threats to democratic accountability and the rule of law, Yakym’s statement serves as a reminder that calls for “judicial independence” and “no one is above the law” ring hollow without consistent application. Only Clowns Are Orange will continue to track these abuses of power and hold all officials accountable, regardless of party loyalty.
