Government Watchdog Investigates Trump DOJ’s Epstein Files Cover-Up at Senator Luján’s Urging
The Government Accountability Office has launched a probe into the Trump DOJ’s shady redactions of the Epstein Files after a bipartisan push led by Senator Ben Ray Luján. This investigation follows concerns that the DOJ under Trump obstructed transparency and violated the Epstein Files Transparency Act, a law Trump himself signed last year.
In a sharp rebuke to the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein scandal, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) has opened an investigation into how the Department of Justice redacted and released the Epstein Files to the public. This move came after a formal request from U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and a bipartisan group of senators, including Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska).
The Epstein Files Transparency Act, championed by Luján, Merkley, and Murkowski, was signed into law by Donald Trump late last year. The law mandates the DOJ to release these files with minimal redactions to ensure public accountability and justice for survivors. Instead, the Trump DOJ reportedly bungled this process, raising serious questions about whether they deliberately obscured key information to protect powerful enablers and co-conspirators.
“The American people deserve accountability, transparency, and a process they can trust,” Luján said in a statement. “But under this Department of Justice, the Trump administration has failed to release the Epstein files as required by law. This audit is a necessary step toward transparency and justice.”
GAO officials confirmed they accepted the request, noting they will coordinate with the DOJ’s Office of the Inspector General to avoid duplicating efforts. The DOJ Inspector General is already conducting a separate audit of the department’s compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
This investigation is a critical development in the ongoing fight to expose the full scope of Jeffrey Epstein’s trafficking network and the institutional failures that allowed it to flourish. It underscores how the Trump DOJ’s lack of transparency continues to shield elites from accountability and obstruct justice for survivors.
Only Clowns Are Orange will continue to monitor this story closely as it develops, holding the Trump administration’s legacy of corruption and cover-ups to account.
