Handwriting Experts Confirm Secret Epstein Notes Are Authentic, Shedding New Light on His Final Days

Newly unsealed notes allegedly written by Jeffrey Epstein in the weeks before his 2019 death have been confirmed as genuine by multiple handwriting experts, according to a US court order and reporting by the New York Times.

The notes were discovered by Epstein’s cellmate Nicholas Tartaglione, a former police officer serving a life sentence, who found one tucked inside a comic book in their shared cell. After years of secrecy, a judge ordered the release of the documents following a request from the Times.

Three forensic handwriting specialists independently analyzed the notes and concluded they share identical characteristics — from letter shapes and spacing to distinctive punctuation and capitalization — that strongly indicate a single author. The experts agreed the author was very likely Epstein, although absolute certainty remains elusive due to the scarcity of verified samples of Epstein’s handwriting.

The newly revealed note contains chilling language about Epstein being “screened for months” with “nothing” found and references his ability to “choose the time to leave” himself. Both notes include the phrase “NO FUN” underlined and end with two exclamation marks, a stylistic signature also found in Epstein’s previously known writings. One note even quotes a line from the 1931 film “The Little Rascals,” a phrase Epstein had used in emails before his incarceration.

Tartaglione testified that he found the note shortly after Epstein was discovered unconscious in his cell on July 23, 2019 — an incident that led to Epstein being placed under observation and moved to a different cell. Epstein was found dead by apparent suicide on August 10, 2019, while alone in his new cell.

The release of these notes provides rare insight into Epstein’s state of mind and conditions in jail, including complaints about prison food, showers, and “huge insects.” The documents also underscore the ongoing mysteries and questions surrounding Epstein’s death, including the adequacy of jail protocols and potential foul play.
