House Oversight Committee Questions Commerce Secretary Lutnick Over Epstein Ties Amid Calls for Resignation
The House Oversight Committee has begun questioning Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick about his connections to Jeffrey Epstein, with bipartisan demands for his resignation growing louder. Lutnick’s evasive testimony and contradictory statements about his relationship with Epstein raise urgent questions about accountability at the highest levels.
The House Oversight Committee launched questioning of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Wednesday, probing his ties to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This comes amid mounting bipartisan pressure demanding Lutnick’s resignation over his undisclosed and misleading connections to Epstein.
Unlike previous witnesses before the committee’s expansive Epstein investigation, Lutnick’s session was conducted as a transcribed interview rather than a sworn deposition. There was no video recording, and he was not under oath, though lying to Congress remains illegal regardless. The committee also declined to offer a virtual option, limiting lawmakers’ participation while Congress is out of session. A transcript of the interview is expected to be released soon.
Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-Ariz.) criticized the scheduling, noting the difficulty it posed for members to attend but affirmed the resolve of some lawmakers to press forward. “It’s very disappointing that they planned this during this time because as always, they’re trying to make it more and more difficult for people to come,” she said. “But that isn’t turning some of us away.”
Lutnick’s connection to Epstein first came to light in January through a Justice Department release of over 3 million documents under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The disclosures contradicted Lutnick’s previous denials and downplaying of his relationship with Epstein. In a 2023 podcast, Lutnick claimed he severed ties with Epstein in 2005. However, DOJ documents revealed that Lutnick visited Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2012, accompanied by his wife, children, and nannies.
This discrepancy underscores a disturbing pattern of powerful individuals minimizing or hiding their associations with Epstein. Lutnick’s evasions add to the long list of elites whose ties to Epstein have been obscured or denied, further fueling demands for transparency and accountability.
The questioning of Lutnick is a critical step in the ongoing effort to expose the full scope of Epstein’s network and the enabling behavior of influential figures. As the investigation unfolds, the public deserves clear answers about who knew what and when—and why those connections were concealed.
Only Clowns Are Orange will continue to follow this story closely, shining a light on corruption and cover-ups that threaten democratic integrity and justice for Epstein’s survivors.
