ICE Agents Storm Brooklyn Hospital, Drag Handcuffed Man Amidst Violent Protest Clash
Masked ICE agents arrested a man at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, sparking a chaotic protest where pepper spray was unleashed and multiple injuries reported. Eyewitnesses accuse NYPD of colluding with ICE despite sanctuary city laws, fueling outrage over aggressive immigration enforcement tactics.
Late Saturday night, Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn became the scene of a disturbing clash between immigration enforcement and the community. Masked ICE agents brought a handcuffed man into the hospital after detaining him during an immigration raid, igniting swift outrage among patients and local residents.
Within minutes, news of the arrest spread on social media, drawing over a hundred protesters demanding answers outside the hospital. The situation quickly escalated as NYPD officers arrived in force around 10:30 p.m., confronting demonstrators with pepper spray and physical force. According to eyewitnesses, officers shoved protesters, pepper-sprayed several community members, and made at least one arrest. The NYPD disputes these claims, insisting they acted only after protesters obstructed emergency access and behaved disorderly.
The tension did not subside. Around 2 a.m., two ICE agents were seen dragging the detained man—who is Black—in handcuffs across the hospital plaza while wielding pepper spray. Protesters tried to block their path, resulting in a series of confrontations that led to nine arrests. The ICE agents then forced the man into an SUV that sped through the crowd, knocking a person to the ground.
Adding fuel to the fire, witnesses reported seeing NYPD officers and ICE agents working side by side inside the hospital and later assisting ICE with a flat tire on the Williamsburg Bridge. This apparent collaboration directly contradicts New York City's sanctuary policies, which prohibit local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE except in serious criminal cases.
State Senator Julia Salazar condemned the heavy police response and growing ICE presence in Bushwick, urging residents to report sightings to the Hands Off NYC hotline. Community members and activists slammed the NYPD for enabling ICE’s aggressive tactics, calling it a betrayal of sanctuary city commitments.
This incident lays bare the ongoing battle over immigration enforcement in New York and the troubling role local police may be playing in facilitating federal raids. As ICE escalates its operations, the line between local law enforcement and federal agents blurs, raising urgent questions about accountability and civil rights protections in sanctuary cities.
We will continue to monitor this developing story and hold those responsible accountable for their actions against vulnerable communities.
