ICE Conducts Multiple Raids in Rhinebeck, Detaining Residents Amid Rising Enforcement

Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stepped up its enforcement efforts in Rhinebeck, New York, with at least two separate raids in the past week, detaining individuals in both operations. The Columbia County Sanctuary Movement, a local group advocating for immigrant rights, reported the increased activity on social media, confirming raids on April 25 and May 1.

According to the Sanctuary Movement’s Facebook post, ICE agents conducted the first raid on the morning of April 25 around 9 a.m., followed by another on May 1 at approximately 7:30 a.m. At least one person was detained in each of these operations. Efforts to reach a representative from the Columbia County Sanctuary Movement for further comment were unsuccessful.

ICE did not respond to requests for confirmation or details about the raids. This silence is typical of the agency’s opaque enforcement practices, which often leave communities in the dark and fearful.

These raids in Rhinebeck are part of a broader pattern of aggressive immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, which has repeatedly targeted sanctuary jurisdictions despite local efforts to protect undocumented residents. The Columbia County Sanctuary Movement’s report highlights the persistent threat ICE poses to immigrant communities, even in areas that have declared themselves safe havens.

As ICE continues to escalate its raids across the country, immigrant rights groups warn that these actions sow fear, disrupt families, and undermine trust between communities and law enforcement. The Trump administration’s hardline immigration policies have turned enforcement agencies into agents of intimidation rather than public safety.

We will continue to monitor ICE activity in sanctuary areas and hold the administration accountable for these raids that threaten the fabric of communities fighting for dignity and justice.
