ICE Raids Disney Cruise Ship, Detains Staff in Disturbing Public Sweep

ICE agents stormed a Disney Magic cruise ship docked in San Diego, detaining at least 10 crew members—some zip-tied and taken off in full uniform without belongings. This shocking raid, part of a wider crackdown labeled Operation Tidal Wave, targets alleged child exploitation suspects but raises serious concerns about due process and immigrant rights abuses.

In a chilling display of federal power, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducted a raid directly on the Disney Magic cruise ship as it docked in San Diego last month, detaining at least 10 crew members. Witnesses described the agents “storming” the vessel and forcibly removing staff still in their Disney uniforms, some with their hands zip-tied behind their backs. Passengers, including Dharmi Mehta, who had spent hours with the crew, were stunned to see the head waiter they had just been served led away in restraints. Mehta recounted the man telling her he had two daughters and was eager to see them ashore—only to be seized without warning.

This incident is not isolated. Two days later, ICE arrested four crew members from another cruise ship, the MV Zandaam operated by Holland America, in what immigrant rights advocates say is part of a growing pattern of aggressive, public raids on maritime workers. Benjamin Prado of Unión del Barrio criticized the actions for denying detainees due process and access to their national consulates, echoing longstanding accusations against the Trump administration's immigration enforcement tactics.

ICE claims the detained individuals are suspected of involvement with Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), citing information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. According to spokesperson Sandra Grisolia, 23 crew members from multiple cruise ships were arrested at the Port of San Diego under “Operation Tidal Wave,” with their visas revoked and processing moved to Los Angeles.

The harbor police have denied involvement in the raid, underscoring that this was a federal operation. But the manner of the arrests—public, sudden, and humiliating—raises urgent questions about the administration’s approach to immigration enforcement, the rights of foreign workers, and the broader climate of fear and intimidation fostered by such tactics.

This raid starkly exposes the Trump administration’s willingness to weaponize immigration enforcement in ways that disrupt lives and violate basic rights, all under the guise of national security and crime fighting. As the cruise industry reels and immigrant advocates sound the alarm, the question remains: how many more will be caught in this brutal dragnet?
