ICE Snatches Milwaukee’s Salah Sarsour, Targeting Palestinian Activist and Community Pillar
Salah Sarsour, a beloved Milwaukee community leader and longtime advocate for Palestinian rights, was forcibly taken by ICE agents without cause. His detention is not just a personal tragedy but a calculated move to silence a key figure in the Palestine solidarity movement.
Salah Sarsour is no ordinary man. For over three decades, he has been a cornerstone of Milwaukee’s Muslim and Palestinian communities—welcoming activists, bridging divides, and tirelessly supporting immigrant and civil rights causes. Known for his warmth, integrity, and relentless dedication, Salah has been a steady force in a movement often fractured by internal conflicts. He is the kind of leader who works behind the scenes, making sure everyone is cared for and no one is left unseen.
Yet on March 30, 2026, over ten ICE agents in twelve vehicles surrounded Salah’s car, pulled him out without legitimate cause, and whisked him away—first to Chicago, then to a detention center in Indiana. A lawful permanent resident for 32 years, a business owner, a husband, a father, and president of the Islamic Society of Milwaukee, Salah was treated like a threat. But he is far from one.
This is not a case of law enforcement doing its job. It is a calculated act of political repression. Salah’s decades of advocacy for Palestinian rights and immigrant justice have made him a target in a broader campaign to silence dissent and intimidate communities that challenge the status quo. His abduction echoes the pattern seen with other activists like Mahmoud Khalil and Leqaa Kordia—people who have been singled out not for crimes but for their activism.
Salah’s story is a stark reminder of ICE’s role not just in immigration enforcement but in suppressing political voices and undermining community leaders. His removal tears at the fabric of Milwaukee’s Palestinian and Muslim communities, but it also ignites a fierce resistance. As Dr. Hatem Bazian, a longtime colleague and friend, emphasizes, Salah is a treasure, not a threat—and his community will not yield to this injustice.
We stand with Salah Sarsour and all those targeted by ICE’s overreach. This is a fight for justice, dignity, and the right to organize without fear. The Trump administration’s ICE continues to weaponize immigration enforcement to quash activism and silence communities. We will keep calling it out until those responsible are held accountable.
