The fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran, touted by President Trump just days ago, is rapidly disintegrating. On Monday, the United Arab Emirates faced a coordinated assault from Iranian drones and missiles, marking a dangerous escalation in the Persian Gulf. In response, U.S. forces sunk six Iranian boats in the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, according to Admiral Brad Cooper of U.S. Central Command.

Trump doubled down on his aggressive rhetoric, warning on Fox News that Iran would be “blown off the face of the earth” if it targeted U.S. ships protecting commercial vessels navigating the vital oil chokepoint. He also called on South Korea to join the U.S. military mission after claiming that a South Korean cargo ship came under Iranian fire.

The UAE’s Defense Ministry confirmed intercepting a barrage of 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and four drones, with three Indian nationals suffering moderate injuries. Abu Dhabi condemned the attacks as “terrorist” and “unprovoked,” while Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps openly claimed responsibility through social media posts showing missile strikes on UAE infrastructure.

This crisis erupted less than 24 hours after Trump announced “Project Freedom,” a plan to break Iran’s effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global oil shipments. Yet, despite the renewed hostilities, Trump has avoided admitting that his ceasefire has collapsed.

The market reacted swiftly: stock indices fell sharply and oil prices surged amid fears that the conflict could spiral, disrupting the global economy. The UAE has now restricted its airspace for a week, further signaling regional instability.

This latest flare-up exposes the Trump administration’s reckless brinkmanship. Rather than pursuing diplomatic solutions, Trump is escalating military tensions in a volatile region to distract from his own political troubles at home. The risk of full-scale war is growing, and the American people deserve accountability for the administration’s dangerous gambits.
