Iran Warns of Retaliation Against US Targets After Tanker Strikes in Gulf

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have escalated threats against the United States, vowing to target American sites across the Middle East if Iranian tankers are attacked again. This declaration came after US forces disabled two Iranian-flagged tankers in the Gulf of Oman, an area critical for global oil transit and ongoing geopolitical conflict.

On Friday, a US fighter jet fired on the tankers, which Washington accused of violating its blockade of Iranian ports. Iran’s military responded with strikes of its own, signaling a dangerous cycle of retaliation. The Revolutionary Guards stated that any further attacks on Iranian commercial vessels would provoke “a heavy attack” on US centers and enemy ships in the region.

Meanwhile, the UK Maritime Trade Operations center reported a recent attack on a bulk carrier near Qatar’s coast, highlighting the volatility of the vital maritime routes. Satellite images have also revealed a significant oil slick off Iran’s Kharg Island, a key oil export hub, raising concerns about environmental damage amid the conflict.

The Gulf remains a flashpoint as Iran seeks to assert control over the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil passageway.
