Iranian Media Denies US Claims of Attack on IRGC Speedboats Amid Escalating Strait of Hormuz Tensions

The fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran is unraveling fast. Iranian state media has flatly denied President Donald Trump’s claims that the US attacked Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) speedboats in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Iran has launched a series of missile and drone strikes against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), marking the first such attacks since the ceasefire was announced last month.

The UAE’s largest oil port in Fujairah was hit by a drone strike that injured three Indian nationals, while four missiles were either intercepted or fell into the sea, according to Gulf sources. The attacks have sent global oil prices surging, with Brent crude climbing above $113 a barrel—a jump of over 53 percent since the start of 2026. The economic fallout is already being felt worldwide, with Australia’s Reserve Bank citing Middle East turmoil as a key driver behind its recent interest rate hike.

Despite Trump’s claims, the US Navy denies any Iranian missile strikes against its vessels. However, a South Korean cargo ship anchored in the Strait of Hormuz suffered an engine room fire, prompting Seoul to investigate whether the damage was caused by an attack or other external factors.

Iran views the US escorting vessels through the Strait of Hormuz under the so-called Project Freedom as a breach of the ceasefire agreement. Iranian officials have issued stark warnings to the US and Israel against any “hostile move,” while flights at Dubai International Airport have been delayed or diverted due to the heightened risk.

The UAE has condemned the drone attacks and blamed Iran, while India has called the targeting of civilian infrastructure “unacceptable” and demanded an immediate halt to hostilities. The European Union has expressed “full solidarity” with the UAE, condemning the violations of sovereignty and international law.

This latest escalation underscores the Trump administration’s dangerous strategy of manufacturing conflict abroad to distract from mounting domestic scandals and consolidate authoritarian control. The reckless saber-rattling in the Gulf is not just a regional crisis—it is a direct threat to global economic stability and democratic accountability back home.

We will continue to monitor these developments closely as the situation deteriorates. The stakes could not be higher.
