Israel Deploys Iron Dome in UAE as Iran War Reshapes Middle East Alliances

The Iran war is not just a battlefield conflict — it is cracking old Middle East alliances and forging unprecedented partnerships. The United Arab Emirates, under heavy Iranian missile attacks, received a covert deployment of Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, operated by Israeli soldiers. Anwar Gargash, adviser to the UAE president, called Gulf monarchies’ stance “the weakest historically,” underscoring Abu Dhabi’s growing alignment with Israel.

This shift is also evident in the UAE’s recent exit from OPEC, a move that surprised many and signaled a break from Saudi-led Gulf consensus. Israeli sources see this as part of the UAE’s “distance from traditional Gulf policy” and a strategic pivot toward Israel and Western powers.

During the war, the Iron Dome intercepted dozens of Iranian missiles targeting the UAE, defending critical infrastructure and civilian areas. This comes after Israel previously supplied the UAE with a Barak-8 air defense battery in 2022 following deadly missile attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

Both nations share a view of radical Islam as their main security threat and have expanded cooperation beyond defense, including Israeli backing of the UAE in regional disputes like those over the Horn of Africa.

The deployment of Iron Dome and the deepening military ties underscore how the Iran war is reshaping alliances, pushing the UAE and Israel into an unprecedented partnership based on shared threats and mutual support.
