Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) — JD Vance’s 2023 social media post opposing the 2003 invasion of Iraq has reappeared online as tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran rise.

On the 20th anniversary of the Iraq War, Vance, who is now the Vice President of the United States, made a post in which he acknowledged that the fight killed many innocent Iraqis and Americans and ruined communities around the area.

Vance also said that the battle led to the annihilation of some of the world’s oldest Christian communities.

In the post, Vance claimed that the war cost the US more than $1 trillion and eventually boosted Iran’s power in Iraq, calling the invasion a “unforced disaster” and expressing optimism that the US would learn from its errors.

The words have received increased attention since Washington is now embroiled in a wider battle with Iran and Israel, with strikes and military activities expanding across multiple Middle Eastern nations, including Iraq, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Oman.

The resurfacing of the statements underlines the disparity between prior criticism of the Iraq war and the present escalation, with some experts warning that the United States still seems to have not completely grasped the lessons of the Iraq fight more than two decades later.
