Judge Demands DOJ Reveal Timeline Behind FBI Raid on Fulton County Election Hub

A federal judge has ordered the Department of Justice to disclose key dates related to the FBI’s controversial search and seizure of ballots and election materials in Fulton County, Georgia. This move shines a spotlight on the Trump-linked investigation into the 2020 election, raising urgent questions about the legal basis and timing of the probe.

Judge Demands DOJ Reveal Timeline Behind FBI Raid on Fulton County Election Hub

U.S. District Judge J.P. Boulee has pushed the Department of Justice to provide clear answers on three critical dates tied to the FBI’s January 28 raid on Fulton County’s election hub — the nerve center of Georgia’s 2020 vote count and a frequent target of Trump’s unfounded fraud claims.

The judge’s ruling demands the DOJ reveal when attorney Kurt Olsen, now President Trump’s “director of election security and integrity,” referred the investigation to the FBI; when the FBI officially opened the criminal probe; and when the DOJ began drafting the affidavit that justified the seizure of hundreds of ballots, tabulator tapes, and electronic ballot images.

“These questions seek an extremely small amount of information and should be simple to answer,” Judge Boulee wrote. He set a tight deadline: the DOJ must respond by Friday at 5 p.m., with both sides allowed to submit supplemental briefs by May 5.

The FBI’s affidavit alleges “deficiencies or defects” in Fulton County’s vote count, including the county’s admission that it lacks scanned images for all ballots counted during the original tally and recount. The affidavit also notes that some ballots were scanned multiple times during the recount. However, multiple state investigations, including a thorough review by Georgia’s secretary of state and election board, have found no evidence of fraud or illegal activity that could have impacted the election outcome.

Fulton County, the state’s most populous and reliably Democratic region, has been at the center of baseless election fraud conspiracies pushed by Trump and his allies to undermine the 2020 results. The DOJ’s refusal thus far to provide a clear timeline of this investigation only deepens concerns about the political motivations behind the unprecedented seizure of election materials.

This ruling is a rare moment of judicial pushback demanding transparency from federal authorities who have otherwise operated with significant secrecy in their politically charged probe. As the deadline looms, all eyes are on the DOJ to reveal the facts behind this extraordinary intrusion into a cornerstone of American democracy.
