A federal judge in New York has unsealed a handwritten note purportedly written by Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender who died in a Manhattan jail in August 2019. The note, scribbled on a yellow legal pad, includes the striking line: “It is a treat to be able to choose one's time to say goodbye.” It also references Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor for prostitution, boasting that investigators “Found NOTHING!!!” in relation to “15 year old charges.” The tone is defiant and cryptic, ending with “NO FUN — NOT WORTH IT!!”

Epstein’s death was officially ruled a suicide, but questions about the circumstances have fueled widespread speculation and conspiracy theories about potential foul play and cover-ups. The note surfaced shortly after Epstein was found injured in his cell in an apparent suicide attempt weeks before his death. Tartaglione said the note was hidden inside a book they shared.

The Times reported last week that the note had never been reviewed by federal investigators and was missing from the vast trove of documents released by the Justice Department related to Epstein’s case.
