Justice Department Weaponizes Power to Relitigate 2020 Election and Target Trump’s Enemies
The Justice Department is doubling down on Donald Trump’s grievances by keeping a massive haul of Georgia’s 2020 election records under FBI lock and key, fueling baseless claims of fraud. Meanwhile, the administration pushes a vendetta against critics like Senator Mark Kelly and the Southern Poverty Law Center, using legal muscle to intimidate and punish dissent.
The Justice Department is aggressively advancing Donald Trump’s political and legal priorities, turning the wheels of the federal government into instruments of retribution and election denial.
At the heart of this campaign is the ongoing investigation into Georgia’s 2020 election results. Despite no credible evidence of fraud, the FBI seized over 600 boxes of election records from Fulton County earlier this year. When county officials sued to reclaim these records, a judge sided with the DOJ, allowing the FBI to maintain possession and continue its probe. This judicial green light is a major win for Trump’s efforts to relitigate the 2020 election and sow doubt about its legitimacy.
But the targeting does not stop there. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth attempted to punish Democratic Senator Mark Kelly, a retired Navy captain, for publicly encouraging service members to refuse illegal orders. Kelly sued, and both initial and appeals courts have expressed skepticism toward the administration’s attempt to demote him. Kelly rightly sees this as a warning shot aimed not just at him but at all veterans and critics who dare to speak out against the administration.
The Justice Department’s assault extends to civil rights groups as well. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), known for exposing extremist groups, now faces fraud indictments alleging it misled donors and financed extremist activities through confidential informants. The SPLC denies these charges and accuses the DOJ of distorting facts, especially after acting Attorney General Todd Blanche publicly questioned the group’s cooperation with law enforcement. The SPLC is now demanding the unsealing of grand jury proceedings to expose possible government misconduct.
These moves reveal a Justice Department no longer committed to impartial justice but to advancing a partisan agenda rooted in Trump-era authoritarian tactics. From weaponizing election investigations to targeting political adversaries and watchdog groups, the DOJ is actively undermining democratic norms and accountability. We will keep tracking these abuses and holding power to account.
