Kash Patel, the FBI director whose tenure has been marked by controversy and questions about his drinking, is facing an imminent exit from his post, according to a former Trump official. Miles Taylor, who served as Homeland Security chief of staff during Trump’s first term and now openly criticizes the former president, told MS NOW he is surprised Patel has lasted this long given Trump’s well-known intolerance for excessive drinking.

“If there’s one thing that the president doesn’t tolerate it’s excessive drinking,” Taylor said. He predicted Patel would be out before Labor Day, noting reports that Trump was close to firing him earlier this year.

Patel’s public image took a hit in February when he was filmed partying with the USA Men’s Hockey team at the Milan Olympics, chugging beer and slapping tables in a display that reportedly drew Trump’s disappointment. Since then, allegations of Patel’s heavy drinking have only intensified.

An April report in The Atlantic, citing over two dozen anonymous government officials, described Patel’s drinking as a “recurring source of concern” so severe it could “threaten national security.” Patel has denied these claims and filed a defamation lawsuit against the publication.

The fallout from the report has only deepened scrutiny of Patel’s leadership. Sources say he has sought to punish journalists who reported on his behavior, allegedly ordering lie detector tests and possibly deploying agents to follow reporters. Meanwhile, Patel has reportedly been avoiding senior Trump officials, retreating into a low profile as he waits for the controversy to fade.

This predicted firing fits a broader pattern of loyalty purges and politicization within federal agencies under Trump.
