Lawmaker says he hopes Matt Walsh won't be fired from Daily Wire over Iran skepticism
WASHINGTON (TNND) — Kentucky GOP Rep. Thomas Massie said Monday that he hopes conservative commentator Matt Walsh doesn’t get fired from the Daily Wire due to skepticism about the U.S. striking Iran.
“So far we’ve heard that although we killed the whole Iranian regime, this was not a regime change war,” Walsh wrote on X Monday morning.
“And although we obliterated their nuclear program, we had to do this because of their nuclear program. And although Iran was not planning any attacks on the US, they also might have been, depending on who you ask.”
Over the weekend, the U.S. and Israel conducted target strikes on Iran. Four U.S. service members have been killed in Operation Epic Fury.
President Donald Trump said in an exclusive interview to the New York Post that he was not ruling out sending U.S. troops into Iran.
Walsh said that the messaging on the plan for Iran is confusing.
“And although we are not fighting this war to free the Iranian people, they are now free, or might be, depending on who seizes power, and we have no idea who that will be,” his post concluded. “The messaging on this thing is, to put it mildly, confused.”
Massie responded to Walsh, saying he hopes he doesn’t get fired for his opinion.
“I hope you don’t get fired for this, because it’s true,” he wrote on X.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to Walsh’s post in a lengthy X post.
“For 47 years, the Iranian regime has actively and intentionally facilitated the killing of Americans while chanting “death to America” and funding other bloodthirsty terrorists seeking to destroy the United States and all of Western Civilization,” she said. “Prior American leaders were too weak and cowardly to do anything about it. Now, President Donald J. Trump is correcting decades of cowardice and holding those responsible for the deaths of Americans accountable.”
