Leaked CIA Report Exposes Trump and Hegseth’s Blatant Lies on Iran War Progress
A leaked CIA analysis reveals that the Trump administration grossly misrepresented the state of the Iran conflict, claiming victory while Iran’s military and economy remain far more resilient than publicly acknowledged. Democratic Senator Chris Murphy called out Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and President Trump for fabricating the facts to justify their aggressive policies.
The Trump administration’s narrative of a decisive military victory over Iran has been shattered by a leaked Central Intelligence Agency report showing the opposite: Iran’s military capabilities and economy are far from broken. According to The Washington Post, the CIA concluded that Iran can withstand a U.S. naval blockade for three to four months or longer, partly by smuggling oil overland. Militarily, Iran retains about 75 percent of its mobile launchers and 70 percent of its missile stockpiles, with underground facilities repaired and new missiles assembled.
This stark reality directly contradicts claims from President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who publicly boasted of crushing Iran’s military. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) responded bluntly: “They lied through their teeth. Just straight up fabricated shit.” Hegseth had previously claimed that Iran’s military was made “combat ineffective” faster than any modern force—a claim the CIA’s sober analysis disproves.
Despite the CIA’s findings, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly doubled down, insisting that Iran is “crushed militarily” and “strangled economically,” losing $500 million daily due to the blockade. Experts were quick to dismiss this framing as politically motivated spin. Esfandyar Batmanghelidj of Johns Hopkins called the blockade “never going to work,” warning that Trump’s approach jeopardized diplomacy. Jennifer Kavanagh of Defense Priorities noted that Iran can endure economically for months, while the costs to the U.S. and global economy mount.
The conflict has already cost the U.S. more than $70 billion in just 60 days, with the International Monetary Fund warning of a looming global recession. The administration’s attempt to declare the war “terminated” to dodge congressional oversight rings hollow, especially as U.S. Central Command reported fresh Iranian missile and drone attacks on American forces just days ago.
This leak exposes the Trump administration’s pattern of deception and reckless escalation in foreign conflicts. Their propaganda may aim to justify endless war and economic pressure, but the facts tell a different story: Iran remains a formidable adversary, and the human and financial costs of this conflict continue to rise. We will keep holding those in power accountable for the truth they try to bury.
