Letters: We need to do something about ICE

I have a problem. In Salisbury and all across America, our rights are being threatened by a government agency that has seemingly faced no accountability for its actions. This agency in question is ICE, otherwise known as U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This agency has been sort of under the radar for a while, in the shadows, but in recent years, it has been popping up everywhere.

This is due to a spike in their activity across the country. This is because of President Donald J. Trump, who has been utilizing it more and more. ICE is a corrupt and heinous organization, along with other reasons, but I’ll focus on one reason. My main issue is pure corruption and the fact they get away with crimes. There are 32 deaths attributed to ICE, including protesters, like Alex Pretti. He was at a protest attempting to help an old lady up after she was attacked by multiple aggressive agents. While he was legally carrying a weapon, he made an effort to reach for it, and had been disarmed when he was shot. That is unbelievable, not just the lives lost but the fact they face no repercussions for their actions. And they are being protected by Trump. I understand that if you’re illegal you have to be deported, I support the idea of ICE but this is not how to deport them.

My point is that we need to do something about ICE, and I believe we should actually punish them, not a slap on the wrist. They should should face justice. Because their actions cannot go unpunished. It is simply unreal what they’re doing. It is unjust, and violates the rule of law.
