Maine’s Susan Collins Exposed as a Trump Enabler and Election Doubter
Susan Collins, long touted as a moderate, faces scathing criticism for betraying Maine voters and enabling Trump’s authoritarian agenda. From cozying up to dark money and dismissing Brett Kavanaugh’s misconduct to backing Trump’s war spending and election rigging efforts, Collins’ record reveals a senator complicit in corruption and democratic erosion.
Susan Collins promised Maine voters she would serve only two terms. Now campaigning for her sixth, she has proven she is willing to swim with the sharks to stay in power — and that means cozying up to the darkest corners of Trump’s political machine.
In a recent letter to The Portland Press Herald, David Hyde of Pownal called out Collins for accepting “dark money” from Leonard Leo, the Federalist Society powerbroker who has fueled the right-wing takeover of the judiciary. Collins’ silence on Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmed deception during his Supreme Court confirmation hearings was a betrayal not just of Maine but of the country’s democratic norms.
While President Trump spends lavishly on Mar-a-Lago weekends, White House refurbishments, and an outrageous $1.5 trillion request for the so-called “War” Department, Collins has remained conspicuously quiet, failing to object to the reckless spending. Worse, she refuses to assert Congress’s constitutional authority under the War Powers Act to end the Iran conflict, effectively conceding to Trump’s autocratic will.
Collins’ silence extends to one of the most egregious scandals of our time: the abuse of young females by Jeffrey Epstein. Instead of demanding justice, her deafening silence speaks volumes about where her priorities lie.
Perhaps most damningly, Collins aligned herself with Trump’s “Save America” campaign—a thinly veiled effort to rig elections and cling to power by any means necessary. Hyde’s letter provocatively questions whether some “illegals” voted Collins into office before, casting a shadow over her previous victories and suggesting the need for a “re-vote.”
Susan Collins is no moderate savior. She is a willing participant in the corruption, authoritarian overreach, and democratic backsliding that define the Trump era. Maine deserves better than a senator who enables the erosion of our democracy while pretending to serve the people.
