Man Shot Dead After Breaching Mar-a-Lago Perimeter Armed with Shotgun and Gas Can

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a serious security breach unfolded at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. According to officials, 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin from North Carolina forced his way through the north gate around 1:30 a.m., carrying a shotgun and a gas can.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw detailed the encounter, explaining that law enforcement ordered Martin to drop his weapons. Instead, Martin placed down the fuel can but raised the shotgun into a shooting position, prompting deputies and Secret Service agents to open fire and neutralize the threat. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.

No Secret Service or Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office personnel were injured, and Trump was not present at Mar-a-Lago during the incident, having remained at the White House. Authorities later found the shotgun’s packaging inside Martin’s vehicle, suggesting he purchased the weapon while traveling south.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina reported that Martin was reported missing by a relative shortly after the incident, and his case was entered into a national missing persons database. The sheriff’s office has no prior history with Martin and has deferred the investigation to federal authorities.

The FBI, Secret Service, and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office are jointly investigating the circumstances surrounding the breach, including Martin’s background, possible motives, and the use of lethal force. Officials are also compiling a psychological profile to better understand the suspect.

FBI Miami Special Agent in Charge Brett Skiles urged nearby residents to review any exterior camera footage from the night of the incident to aid the investigation. FBI Director Kash Patel pledged full resource dedication to the case, emphasizing close coordination with the Secret Service and other partners.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described the suspect as a “crazy person” armed with a gun and gas canister, praising the Secret Service for their swift and decisive response.

This alarming breach follows two assassination attempts on Trump during his 2024 campaign, raising serious questions about security protocols at properties tied to the former president. The incident underscores ongoing threats faced by Trump and the challenges law enforcement agencies confront in protecting high-profile figures amid a volatile political climate.
