Maynard James Keenan Warns: “We’ve Lost The F*cking Way” As Project 2025 Creeps Into Childhood Conversations
Maynard James Keenan doesn’t mince words about the state of the world—he says we’ve unplugged our ability to talk to each other and are being manipulated by algorithms feeding extremist divisions. Alarmingly, his 10-year-old daughter is already discussing Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation’s authoritarian blueprint for a Trump second term, showing how political toxicity is seeping into even the youngest minds.
Maynard James Keenan, frontman of Tool and Puscifer, is sounding the alarm on society’s unraveling. In a recent interview, Keenan laid bare a grim reality: “The f*cking world’s on fire and I don’t think there’s enough buckets around to help put it out.” His frustration centers on a society that has lost the ability to communicate meaningfully, replaced instead by divisive algorithms and dopamine-driven social media manipulation.
“We’ve lost the fcking way,” Keenan said. “I think the ability to talk to each other is vanquished. It’s been unplugged.” This breakdown in dialogue fuels extremism on all sides, with people “dying on this hill over stupid sht,” trapped by programming that turns them into puppets of their own biases.
Keenan’s critique echoes concerns from other artists like Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe, who laments how digital isolation has eroded community bonds. Blythe points to a lost neighborly trust—a stark contrast to his own experience of neighbors holding keys to each other’s homes and sharing responsibilities.
Unlike many who rush to activism, Keenan channels his observations through art. “I’m not a politician, I’m not a soldier—I was a soldier, but I’m not a soldier,” he said. “My only primary motivation is to see what I see, report the story. All I can do is tell stories, sing songs, make food, get you drunk.”
But Keenan’s concern goes beyond adult disconnection. He revealed his 10-year-old daughter is already talking about Project 2025 with her friends—a chilling sign of how deeply right-wing authoritarian plans have permeated everyday life. Project 2025, a Heritage Foundation blueprint for dismantling federal agencies and consolidating power under a potential Trump second term, was initially disavowed during the 2024 campaign but has since influenced policy.
“I have a pretty good idea of what I was doing at the age of ten. But she’s with her friends talking Project 2025. Can you imagine being ten years old talking about that sh*t?” Keenan asked.
This glimpse into the political indoctrination of children underscores the urgency of resisting authoritarian overreach and reclaiming our fractured public discourse. As Keenan warns, the world is burning—and the buckets are running dry. It’s on all of us to find a way back to conversation, community, and accountability before the flames consume us all.
