WASHINGTON, DC – Héctor Sánchez Barba, President and CEO of Mi Familia Vota, issued a statement following the news that U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem has been fired from her position by President Trump:

“Kristi Noem leaves DHS in disgrace — and she should. Under her watch, at least 53 people died in CBP or ICE custody. Two American citizens, nurse Alex Pretti and mother Renée Good, were shot dead in cold blood by DHS agents. And when the cameras caught it, she looked the country in the eye and lied.

"Meanwhile, ICE unleashed a reign of terror on communities across this country — ripping families apart, detaining infants, conducting military-style raids that left neighbors afraid to open their doors, parents afraid to drop their kids at school, and sick people afraid to call an ambulance. Kristi Noem didn't just preside over this. She ordered it. She celebrated it. She built it.

"Let there be no confusion: removing Noem is not reform. It is the bare minimum.

"The American people deserve a DHS that makes all of us safer — not a government agency that kills, disappears, and lies about its own citizens. We will be watching. We will be pushing. And we will hold DHS Secretary Nominee Markwayne Mullin accountable — every single day — just as we held Noem."
