New Poll Reveals Majority of Americans Now Reject Trump’s Iran War Strategy

The latest polling data delivers a clear message: Americans are increasingly fed up with President Trump’s reckless approach to the war in Iran. According to a PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll, 60 percent of adults disapprove of how Trump is managing the conflict, while only 33 percent approve. This level of disapproval is historically significant, mirroring the widespread dissatisfaction during the Iraq War under George W. Bush in 2007, despite that war having dragged on for years with substantial American casualties.

Partisan divides are stark but shifting. While a majority of Republicans still back Trump’s Iran policy, their support has dropped by seven points since March, signaling cracks in the president’s base amid growing war weariness.

The war’s economic fallout is hitting Americans hard, especially at the gas pump. A staggering 81 percent of respondents report feeling the financial pinch from rising gas prices, with a third describing it as a major strain on their families. Only a small minority, likely those with electric vehicles or other insulation from fuel costs, report no impact. Crucially, 63 percent of Americans pin the blame for these price hikes squarely on Trump’s shoulders.

This economic pain is bleeding into broader disapproval of Trump’s stewardship of the economy. Once a strong suit for the president, economic approval has flipped, with 61 percent now disapproving of his handling of the nation’s finances. This represents a dramatic shift from December 2020, when Trump still enjoyed majority approval on the economy despite losing the election.

As the midterm elections approach, these polling trends spell trouble for Republicans. Democrats hold a 10-point lead on the generic ballot, with independents favoring Democrats by an even wider margin. Enthusiasm to vote also favors Democrats, who appear more motivated than their Republican counterparts. This energy gap helped deliver a decisive Democratic win in a key Michigan state Senate race, a district previously more competitive.

Meanwhile, Trump’s attempts to purge Republicans who defied his redistricting agenda are yielding mixed results. Five state senators who voted against Trump’s redistricting plan lost their primary races, underscoring the president’s continued influence within the party—but also highlighting internal fractures.

In sum, Trump’s Iran war gambit is unraveling politically and economically, with growing public disapproval threatening to drag down his party in crucial upcoming elections. The American people are signaling loud and clear: they want no part of this war or the chaos it brings.
