Prosecutors dropped new evidence Thursday that paints a stark picture of the moments leading up to the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner last Saturday night. The event, attended by President Donald Trump and top administration officials, was rocked by an attack inside the Washington Hilton hotel.

The released video captures alleged attacker Cole Tomas Allen casually walking through a hallway near the security checkpoint. One second after Allen enters, a Secret Service officer and his dog approach the same doorway. The officer pauses for about 12 seconds, scanning the hallway with elevators, while the dog moves in and out of the doorway. Notably, Allen disappears from view during this time.

Suddenly, the officer and dog turn away, and Allen rushes back out of the doorway wielding a shotgun, heading straight toward the security checkpoint. Prosecutors say this footage shows Allen and the Secret Service officer exchanging gunfire, with Allen shooting the officer. DC US Attorney Jeanine Pirro, leading the prosecution, stressed there is “no evidence the shooting was the result of friendly fire,” directly countering any defense claims.

Prior to the shooting, Allen was seen wandering the hotel halls, behavior prosecutors interpret as casing the venue for an attack. Despite Allen’s attorneys conceding to keep him detained, Pirro’s team pushed to release this video and other evidence, including photos of Allen’s hotel room, a used shotgun casing, and an arsenal of weapons like a pistol, knives, and tape.
