Nikki Free, podcast host and commentator, has delivered a blistering critique of Project 2025, exposing it as the next stage in America’s long history of racially coded political strategies. In a viral Instagram video titled “Welcome To The Southern Strategy 2.0,” Free argues that the blatant racism of the past has evolved into something far more dangerous: racism embedded in public policy and governance.

Free traces this evolution back to the post-Civil Rights era shift when open racial hostility became socially unacceptable. Politicians didn’t stop opposing Black progress—they just learned to dress it up in “law and order,” “states’ rights,” and “traditional values.” The language got cleaner, but the targets remained the same. She warns that too many Americans still expect racism to sound like the fire hoses and slurs of the 1960s, missing the “sophisticated, polished, suit-and-tie version” that is now shaping laws and policies.

Project 2025, Free explains, is where these coded messages stop being mere campaign slogans and become actual governing policy. This blueprint—championed by hardline conservatives—aims to dismantle civil rights protections, restrict education on Black history, ban books, crack down on immigration, and attack diversity and inclusion initiatives. Importantly, these policies rarely mention race explicitly because they no longer need to. The impact on marginalized communities is devastating, even if the language is sanitized.

Free’s warning is urgent: by the time the public fully grasps the implications of these policies, the laws will already be passed and entrenched. Her video has struck a chord, especially among Black voters and younger Americans concerned about the future of voting rights, racial equity, and democracy itself.

This moment demands clarity. The Southern Strategy never went away—it just got a makeover. Project 2025 is its latest, most dangerous incarnation, weaponizing policy to roll back decades of civil rights progress under the guise of neutral governance. We ignore this at our peril.
