No Place Like Home Teen Night at The Wende Offers Safe Space Amid Rising ICE Raids
The Wende Museum is hosting a free Teen Night event on May 8, 2026, exclusively for high school students, creating a refuge amid ongoing ICE raids and police violence. Featuring student art installations and live music, the event centers on the meaning of home as a sanctuary and source of identity.
The Wende Museum’s Teen Council is stepping up to provide a vital space for high school students with their upcoming event, No Place Like Home, on May 8, 2026. This free Teen Night is designed exclusively for current high schoolers, requiring valid student ID for entry. It’s more than just a night out — it’s a sanctuary in a time when ICE raids and police violence threaten the safety and stability of many communities.
No Place Like Home ties directly into the Wende Museum’s ongoing exhibition, Enrique Martínez Celaya: The Sextant, which explores “home” as both a physical refuge and an emotional anchor. The student-produced art installation featured at the event reflects this theme, highlighting how home embodies family bonds, cultural roots, and personal identity — all crucial in resisting authoritarian overreach and systemic violence.
Beyond the art, attendees can engage with custom screenprinting and laser engraving by Creative Rush Merch and Events, enjoy food from Taco ‘Bout Amazing, and experience live music and DJs. The event aims to foster connection, creativity, and a sense of belonging for youth navigating a landscape of uncertainty and fear.
The Wende’s teen program is supported by major backers including Sony Pictures Entertainment, Amazon, the Mark Hughes Foundation, and Skip Victor, underscoring the importance of investing in safe, empowering community spaces for young people.
In a climate where government actions threaten civil rights and community stability, events like No Place Like Home are critical. They offer young people not just a night of fun, but a powerful reminder that home is a place of resistance, resilience, and hope.
