PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — A partial federal government shutdown entered its second week Sunday after congressional Democrats and top Trump administration officials failed to reach a deal on a spending bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security.

Only agencies under DHS are affected by the shutdown, including the Transportation Security Administration and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Despite being under the DHS umbrella, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection will continue operating largely as usual because of billions in funding from President Trump’s recent spending bill.

Democrats are calling for reforms to immigration enforcement operations following last month’s deadly shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good by federal officers in Minneapolis.

During this week's segment of Your Voice, Your Vote, KATU’s Darryl Burke sat down for an exclusive one-on-one interview with Oregon's sole congressional Republican, U.S. Rep. Cliff Bentz, focusing on the shutdown, rising tensions in Iran and the release of the Epstein files.
