Oversight Democrats Move to Hold Pam Bondi in Civil Contempt Over Epstein Files Cover-Up
Rep. Robert Garcia and House Oversight Democrats have filed a resolution to hold former Attorney General Pam Bondi in civil contempt after she defied a bipartisan subpoena and refused to testify about the Trump administration’s mishandling of the Epstein files. This move escalates the fight to break the White House’s stonewalling and demand accountability for the ongoing cover-up.
House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Robert Garcia is taking a hard stand against former Attorney General Pam Bondi’s refusal to cooperate with the investigation into the Trump administration’s handling of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse files. Garcia, along with every Democratic member of the committee, has filed a resolution to hold Bondi in civil contempt of Congress after she failed to appear for a deposition under a legally binding bipartisan subpoena.
Bondi’s no-show on April 14, 2026, was a blatant defiance of congressional authority. The subpoena, which passed the House Oversight Committee 24 to 19 with support from both Democrats and a handful of Republicans, demands her testimony about the Justice Department’s botched release of Epstein-related documents and the White House’s ongoing cover-up efforts. Despite being fired, Bondi remains legally bound to comply.
“Pam Bondi has illegally defied our committee, skipped her deposition, and has refused to cooperate,” Garcia said. “Bondi has extensive personal knowledge about the Trump Administration’s handling of the Epstein files, and regardless of her job title, her testimony and cooperation are crucial. The survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse deserve answers and the American people deserve the truth.”
This resolution instructs the House to take the matter to court to compel Bondi’s testimony, signaling that Oversight Democrats will not let the Trump administration’s allies run out the clock or stonewall justice. The move also highlights a growing frustration with House Oversight Chairman James Comer, whom Garcia accuses of trying to stall the investigation.
The Epstein files scandal represents a broader pattern of cover-ups and corruption that defined the Trump era, with powerful figures shielding themselves and their associates from accountability. Bondi’s refusal to testify only deepens suspicions that critical information remains hidden.
Oversight Democrats are pushing back hard, making clear that no one, not even a former Attorney General, is above the law when it comes to exposing abuses of power and protecting survivors of one of the most notorious trafficking networks in recent history. The fight for transparency and justice continues, and this civil contempt resolution is the latest front in that battle.
