During the second half of 2025, Marco Rubio made a total of 14 official foreign trips, visiting 11 countries (Asia, Europe, North America, and South America). Some visits also took place in the United States, mainly in Washington, D.C. – 52 meetings were recorded.
A noteworthy meeting was the visit of Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar to the State Department in Washington, which took place on August 27, 2025. During the meeting, security issues in the Middle East were discussed. On December 8, 2025, Marco Rubio met with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong ahead of the 35th Australian-American Ministerial Consultations. During the meeting, the participants discussed the issue of the Indo-Pacific region.
As many as three of the visits took place in Israel, which demonstrates the country’s importance in United States policy. Contacts with this country are also significant in the context of security issues, with discussions covering, among others, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the situation in the Gaza Strip, as well as the repercussions of the Israeli attack on Qatar.
In addition to visits to Israel, Marco Rubio also visited Qatar and Egypt, where the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit took place. Both visits concerned security issues in the Middle East.
Another notable event was the 47th ASEAN Summit, during which Secretary Marco Rubio held many meetings with representatives of other countries, including China, the Philippines, Japan, and South Korea.
Rubio visited two of the last-mentioned countries, namely Japan and South Korea, directly after the summit in Malaysia. The trip to the region was aimed at promoting peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific area, which shows the strategic commitment and significance of the region in United States policy.
In early September 2025, Secretary Rubio visited Mexico and Ecuador. During the visits, topics addressed included actions aimed at dismantling cartels, stopping fentanyl trafficking, ending illegal immigration, and reducing the trade deficit. It is worth emphasizing that this was Rubio’s fourth visit to the Western Hemisphere, which shows the United States’ commitment to border protection and the neutralization of drug-terrorism threats.
Marco Rubio also made visits to European countries. During a meeting in London, the Secretary joined President Trump’s delegation. During the meeting with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, cooperation between the US and the UK on key global challenges was discussed, including ending the Russian-Ukrainian war, preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, ensuring the release of all Hamas hostages and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and competition with China.
The issue of Russian aggression against Ukraine was a key matter discussed during the visit to Switzerland in November, where negotiations on a peace plan for Ukraine took place. The conducted talks were, in a way, a continuation of the Kananaskis summit earlier in the year. Discussions focused on the implementation of peace initiatives in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip, as well as maritime security.
In the second half of the year, Secretary Marco Rubio also held several dozen telephone conversations. The Secretary maintained particularly frequent contacts with representatives from Saudi Arabia, France, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom. These conversations mainly concerned security issues in the Middle East.
In summary, Marco Rubio’s travels and meetings in the second half of 2025 highlighted US priorities regarding security in the Middle East, stability in the Indo-Pacific region, and the fight against drug cartels. Multiple visits to Israel, Qatar, and Egypt, as well as engagement in Asia and Europe, strengthened alliances and crisis management. Overall, Marco Rubio’s actions indicate a focus on reinforcing partnerships while simultaneously resolving regional conflicts and global security challenges.
